Which pack to choose when you start Pokémon TCG Pocket?

By Pokémon Zone
Last Updated:

When you play Pokémon TCG Pocket for the first time, you're immediately prompted to choose one of three booster packs to open. This choice influences these elements:

  • the starter deck you get first
  • the preset EX monster included in the pack
  • the full-art card you receive during the tutorial's Wonder Pick

The EX card you get powers up the deck it comes with.

Find the list of all the cards and decks you get by default according to the pack you pick first in the game.

If you pick the Charizard pack...

...You get a Pinsir Deck.

Which pack should I pick?

Although they're rather similar in power, the Charizard pack gives you access to Exeggutor ex which can be played in the competitive deck Venusaur ex. Marowak ex from the Mewtwo pack is also playable in Marowak ex decks. These two options are very good: ultimately, the Mewtwo pack might be slightly better as Sandslash complements Marowak ex really well.
