Pokémon Day takes place every year on February 27, honoring the Japanese release of the original Pokémon Red and Green. The Pokémon Company traditionally unveils its biggest upcoming releases through a video series called Pokémon Presents. Exactly a year ago, they revealed the first trailer for Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Now, in the 2025 edition and among many announcements, Pokémon Presents shared more details about the upcoming Triumphant Light (A2a) set and new features in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Triumphant Light trailer
The new Triumphant Light set centers around Arceus ex. Some Pokémon cards explicitly reference having Arceus on the field through abilities featuring the word "Link". These cards also share a matching background pattern in the text box.
The set remains focused on Generation 4 while incorporating elements from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, set in Hisui (historic Sinnoh). Notably, it includes Supporter cards of popular trainers of the region such as Irida and Adaman.

Trading will extend to Space-Time Smackdown
Thanks to data retrieval as well, we know that from the very first day of release of Triumphant Light, cards from Space-Time Smackdown will be tradeable!
Keep in mind that trading is still limited to cards of rarity , , , and . For most players, it means you'll be able to complete your decks and even (secret) missions from themed collections that require specific card and rarities.
Pokémon Day special event
Special missions will be available to celebrate Pokémon Day, coming at the same time as Triumphant Light! You can get rewards such as trade tokens, new backdrops, booster packs, and more!

Ranked Matches in Pokémon TCG Pocket
The long-awaited feature of ranked matches has finally been made official, with a release date at the end of march. Perhaps on the 27th, right after the special event?
It's currently unknown if it will blend with the current matchmaking in Versus Battles or will be a completely new mode. From the promotional picture, it seems that the highest rank will be named after the Master Ball, the ultimate Poké ball to catch any Pokémon without fail.

New cover and backdrops
Coinciding with the addition of these booster packs, new covers and backdrops will become available, themed with Pokémon from the new sets as well as the world-renowned japanese cherry blossom.
