Ranked among the top budget decks with no card above ◊◊ rarity, this deck leverages Blaine to power up Rapidash and Ninetales for quick and efficient damage.
Both Pokémon are Stage 1, making them quick to get onto the field, and each is fast to power up:
- Ninetales deals 90 damage with Flamethrower for at the cost of discarding 1 Energy. Blaine boosts this to 120, enough to one-shot Pikachu ex, among others. Once Ninetales is established, the Energy attachment per turn is enough to maintain a consistent flow of damage. It's the main beater of the deck
- Rapidash comes in two versions. The one from Genetic Apex can attack as early as turn 2 on the play with Fire Mane, which costs just one and deals 40 damage (70 with Blaine), enough to KO most Basic Pokémon. The one from Mythical Island attacks a turn later, but can potentially increases these damage by 100 with Rising Lunge, an unparalleled (but unreliable) damage output in this deck.

Tech cards in Blaine deck
Magmar (Genetic Apex)
Magmar is not a staple in Blaine decks as it has a medium 80 HP, its Magma Punch deals a medium 50 damage for 2 Energies and any Basic Pokémon is a conflict for Vulpix or Ponya when you use Poké ball. But unlike all the Blaine-related Pokémon, it doesn't need to evolve to deal respectful damages, and its attack is eligible to Blaine effect.
Magmar (Mythical Island)
The new Magmar from Mythical Island is more convincing. It still has the same 80 HP and 2 Retreat Cost as before, but its Fire Blast attack deals a solid 80 damage, making it a great backup for Ninetales without needing to evolve.
The downside? It discards 2 when it attacks, so it’s probably not getting more than one shot off. But with Blaine, Fire Blast can hit for up to 110 damage, giving this Magmar a real edge as a one-time heavy hitter.
Farfetch'd
Although never more than a one-of, Farfetch'd fits very well in the aggressive theme of Blaine. With just 1 Energy needed to attack and to retreat and no need to evolve, Leek Slap is the perfect opener while you evolve your benched Ponyta and Vulpix.
Weaknesses
- The extremely frail bulk of these Pokémon makes them unable to withstand powerful attacks from Stage 2 Pokémon ex, and Ninetales can even be one-shot by Pikachu ex—the very Pokémon it's meant to counter. Their unfortunate weakness also leaves them particularly vulnerable to Starmie ex and Articuno ex
- The deck is make or break early in the game. It relies on playing on curve to outspeed the opponent—any delayed evolution likely puts you at a disadvantage that the deck isn't coming back from easily.
- Not drawing Blaine significantly weakens the attacks of both Rapidash and Ninetales, leaving them rather underwhelming.
