After Gardevoir’s impressive performance in previous formats, Gallade ex faces the challenge of carrying on the legacy of the Ralts line in the Space-Time Smackdown metagame. As the first split evolution to appear in TCG Pocket, it also marks the first instance of a Stage 2 Pokémon changing its typing from its previous stages—allowing it to exploit different weaknesses throughout its evolutionary process.
Gallade ex's sole attack, Energized Blade, is reminiscent of the Psychic attack (Jynx, Alakazam...). It deals a base 70 damage, increasing by 20 for each Energy attached to the opponent's Active Pokémon. Since Energized Blade requires only , Gallade ex is versatile—it can attack on curve as early as turn 3 while also scaling into the late game, dealing more damage as the opponent's Pokémon accumulate Energy.

- Ralts and Kirlia are fragile pre-evolutions with minimal damage output, making the potential of a dual-typing evolution line largely wasted. Kirlia, in particular, is an especially weak link, and both suffer from a weakness—problematic given the popularity of decks in the current format. They also do not benefit from buffs applying to types
