Giratina ex Deck

Giratina ex is the last deity from Generation 4 to finally receive an ex version. It’s also the first Basic Pokémon with a self-sufficient Energy acceleration ability in Broken-Space Bellow: it attaches a Energy from your Energy Zone to Giratina ex... at the cost of ending your turn.

Since you can’t attack after using this ability, Broken-Space Bellow shines most when going first, as you wouldn’t be able to attack that turn anyway. Plus, with the regular Energy attachment, Giratina ex can be fully powered by turn 5 to unleash a devastating 130 damage with its Chaotic Impact. A power well worth giving up one or two attack phases for, especially when set up that early in the game, as it one-shots most non-ex Pokémon and many Pokémon ex with the help of Giovanni or Red.

The long-standing top tiers of TCG Pocket since Shining Revelry, it relies on the big bulk of the 2 Legendary and while preparing them with Energy attachment + Giratina ex's Broken-Space Bellow for later turns, Nightmare Aura deals passive damage that can be further increased by also running Rocky Helmet. Nightmare Aura helps Chaotic impact reach the critical threshold of 150HP of damage against the Defending Pokémon in a single turn.
This version runs exclusively Energy in the Energy Zone to guarantee a steady stream of damage.
To be more aggressive, it can run Dawn which can make Darkrai ex attack for 80 as soon as turn 4 following a turn 2 Broken-Space Bellow by Giratina ex. Effectively a "16 Trainer" kind of deck, it has a lot of room to play multiple supporters.

- Chaotic Impact, at 130 damage, falls just short of the key 140 HP benchmark seen in many relevant Pokémon ex, and the gap widens if a Giant Cape is attached. Worse, the 20 recoil damage drops Giratina ex below 140 HP itself, making it vulnerable to attacks like the ubiquitous Arceus ex’s Ultimate Force. The self-damage adds up fast, especially if you fail to knock out the opponent’s Active Pokémon in one hit.
- Each turn spent using Broken-Space Bellow is also a turn without attacking, giving your opponent more time to develop their board, evolving into stronger Pokémon or setting up attacks that can KO Giratina ex. While it’s usually easy to power Giratina ex up to 2 Energy early on thanks to its ability, doing so later in the game is harder, as skipping attacks in the late game is rarely viable.
- Its expensive attack and the turn-ending nature of Broken-Space Bellow confine Giratina ex to slower decks that can function outside of the attack phase and/or to decks that already run Energy.
