The two Legendary birds from Johto, Ho-Oh and Lugia, naturally team up in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Ho-Oh ex acts as an Energy accelerator: its Phoenix Turbo provides 3 different Energy types –, , and – to your Basic Benched Pokémon, in any way you like. It's currently the biggest Energy accelerator in the game.

Ho-Oh ex is extremely versatile, as Phoenix Turbo only costs 3 Energy, making it usable in any deck. All of the Energies it provides work with Elemental Switch, to make the Energies flow between your Benched and Active Pokémon.

Lugia ex is the natural payoff for Ho-Oh ex’s Phoenix Turbo. As an homage to its iconic first TCG print, its attack Elemental Blast costs , , and , dealing a massive 180 damage. The catch: you must discard one of each of these Energy types.

Built to work together, this Legendary duo is ready to unleash devastating power on the game!

Weaknesses

  • Requiring 3 Energy to attack, Phoenix Turbo is the slowest Energy acceleration engine in the game, leaving Ho-Oh ex vulnerable during setup turns. Its mediocre 80 damage doesn’t help its case either.
  • Elemental Blast –and Lugia ex by extension– is nearly unusable without Ho-Oh ex, due to the need for three different Energy types. Since the attack discards them immediately, setting up back-to-back uses takes careful planning and effort, which also gives enough time for the opponent to put a big dent in it.
