starters are once again blessed with an ex version of their Stage 2 form in Celestial Guardians, bringing Incineroar ex into the ring. It’s an even more aggressive option than the previous ones: both of its attacks deal damage and can be used on curve.

The first attack, Fire Fang, deals 30 damage and Burns the opponent’s Active Pokémon, effectively dealing 50 damage and forcing a retreat if the Burn isn’t cured right away. Since it only requires 1 Energy, you can even use it on turn 3 with a Rare Candy evolution from Litten.

The second attack, Scar-Charged Smash, has a modest base damage of 80 for , but that jumps to a strong 140 if Incineroar ex has any damage on it.

This makes attacking into Incineroar ex and its bulky 180 HP a tough choice: very few Pokémon can take it down in one hit, and the counterattack is likely to be lethal. But Incineroar ex doesn’t even need outside help: both of its pre-evolutions have Heat Tackle, an attack that deals 10 recoil damage—perfect for setting up a full-power Scar-Charged Smash.
