Darkrai ex has dominated metagames throughout the A Series thanks to its ability to consistently deal 20 damage per turn through its ability alone, providing steady chip damage to weaken opposing Pokémon before finishing them off with an attack, often from Giratina ex. Could Jolteon ex be its B Series counterpart?
As long as Jolteon ex remains in the Active Spot, its Electromagnetic Wall ability deals 20 damage whenever your opponent attaches an Energy from their Energy Zone to any of their Pokémon. You don’t need to commit a specific Energy type or target: your opponent effectively damages their own Pokémon, whether it’s through their regular Energy-per-turn attachment or via acceleration effects such as Misty or Giratina ex’s Broken-Space Bellow. This serves as a strong punish against decks that rely on attaching multiple Energies per turn, and leaves their Bench exposed to Cyrus plays, all without any extra effort on your end.
And while Jolteon ex must evolve from Eevee, the new Eevee’s Boosted Evolution ability allows you to bring Jolteon ex into play before your opponent even takes their first turn. From there, they’ll have to deal not only with the recurring 20 damage from Electromagnetic Wall, but also with Mach Bolt, which delivers an above-rate 80 damage for just . This secures a clean two-shot on most Pokémon ex, even before factoring in the incremental damage from its ability. As a result, Jolteon ex stands out as one of the top threats of the new Mega Rising metagame, despite not being a Mega Pokémon itself.

- Because Jolteon ex needs to evolve, its impact diminishes if it doesn’t come online early. After a few turn, opponents can simply avoid attaching Energy from the Energy Zone if their Pokémon don't require extra.
- Some strategies don’t rely on the Energy Zone for acceleration—Flareon ex’s Combust, Flame Patch, or Volkner, for example—making Jolteon ex’s ability less effective.
