Charizard ex was the only Pokémon capable of one-shotting every other Pokémon in the game for a long while, from its release in the very first expansion Genetic Apex. Now that evolved Mega Pokémon sit above 200 HP, Mega Charizard Y ex is taking over from the original flying lizard to deliver the strongest blows. Its Crimson Dive attack deals 250 damage, currently the strongest attack in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and can knock out any Pokémon in a single hit.
With support from the new Charmeleon to accelerate Energy, alongside existing options like Flame Patch, Mega Charizard Y ex can become fully operational at impressive speed.

Although Entei ex has a fairly unremarkable attack, it can now use it a turn earlier if Charmeleon evolves while Entei ex is in the Active spot. This also allows it to threaten the full power version of Blazing Beatdown for a baseline 120 damage. In the meantime, the Legendary Pulse Ability remains as strong as ever and helps assemble the full Mega Charizard Y ex evolution line more quickly.

Charizard ex’s old partner is back. Moltres ex, all the way from Genetic Apex, powers up the big lizard with its Inferno Dance attack, then retreats into a healthy, ready-to-go Mega Charizard Y ex loaded with Energy. This version aims for explosive openings, trying to use Crimson Dive as early as turn 5 with favorable coin flips.
- Mega Charizard Y ex requires 4 Energy to use its only attack, which makes it ineffective until the mid to late game. During that time, its fragile pre-evolutions can take heavy damage.
- The 50 damage recoil is also a major concern. To knock out three Pokémon, Mega Charizard Y ex would drop to 70 HP... in the unlikely scenario that none of them hit it back. By repeatedly sending low-level Pokémon, an opponent can gradually chip down Charizard Y until it is forced to deal with a stronger threat.
