Top tiers might emerge thanks to the sheer power of their signpost Pokémon, or thanks to new mechanics that change the dynamic of the game. Mega Kangaskhan ex belongs to the latter category. Its unique Double-Punching Family attack deals a total of 120 damage, split into two instances: 80 base damage, followed by 40 damage from baby Kangaskhan.

What makes this attack special is how the damage is applied. If a Pokémon is Knocked Out by the first hit, the new Defending Pokémon still takes the second hit. If a damage-boosting effect is applied that turn (such as Red or Giovanni), it applies to both damage instances. This interaction gives Mega Kangaskhan ex exceptional damage efficiency and turns it into a legitimate metagame threat.
