Mega Lucario ex Deck

After a long dry spell for types, one of their most iconic warriors is ready to break into the metagame: Mega Lucario ex. Its single attack, Fighting Pulse, has two modes. It deals a base 90 damage for , and with one extra Energy, it reaches 140 damage: a critical threshold, high enough to one-shot most regular Pokémon ex.

While Fighting Pokémon currently lack Energy acceleration, simply sequencing a 2-Energy Fighting Pulse into a 3-Energy Fighting Pulse is enough to knock out most Mega Pokémon ex. It gets even better with damage support from regular Lucario and cards like Korrina and Arena of Antiquity, released in the same expansion.

Mega Lucario ex brought back a rather underused Pokémon in Hitmontop from Wisdom of Sky and Sea. Acting like a Pheromosa, its Piercing Spin deals 40 damage split in half on both the Defending Pokémon and one of the opponent's Benched Pokémon. Although weak at first glance, it benefits from all the support, and Hitmontop can use it multiple turns in a row thanks to its decent 80HP. It setups future devastating Cyrus plays with a powered-up Mega Lucario ex, now capable to take down any Benched Pokémon in a few hit.

Although Mega Lucario ex is a fast-paced deck, it finds in a one-of Koraidon ex a great alternate finisher. The legendary Pokémon from Scarlet comes into the field with the ability to go directly from your Bench to the Active spot while sucking all Energy from your field to attach to it. Its World Wrecker attack deals a strong 110 damage for  with a minor downside, enough to knock out in two hits most Mega Pokémon ex. This comes as a convenient 1-of trump card to put out of harm's way a damaged active Mega Lucario ex or even take over a regular Lucario or Hitmontop to keep on pressuring the opponent.

The dreaded Igglybuff in this variant might make it the most fearsome take on the deck. Dealing damage from the very first turn while trapping the opponent's Active Pokémon with sleep, with increased damage from Darkrai's Bad Dreams: all this without a single Energy. That means all Energy from the Energy zone can be dedicated to grow Mega Lucario ex's Fighting Pulse to its biggest damage output.

- The biggest weakness of Mega Lucario ex comes from evolving from the same Pokémon as the regular Lucario from Space-Time Smackdown, one of the rare Fighting-type support in the game. This means the deck usually only benefits from one instance of Lucario’s Fighting Coach, which lowers its overall damage output.
- Mega Lucario ex also enters a metagame with few Fighting-weak targets, and it struggles against the very common Mega Altaria ex, which it is weak to.
