Sceptile was also released as a regular Pokémon in Pulsing Aura. Similar to Mega Sceptile ex, it can attack as early as turn 4 with Leaf Blade, which deals a whopping 120 damage with a favorable coin flip. The idea is to get any Sceptile into play as quickly as possible for early aggression, a plan easily enabled by Fragrant Forest and Quick-Grow Extract. The deck also has the luxury of evolving into the regular Sceptile before bringing Mega Sceptile ex to the Active spot, for better point efficiency.

This version can play slightly differently from regular Stage 2-centric decks built around Rare Candy, and introduces techs such as Celebi from Pulsing Aura to use Grovyle's Slicing Snipe and open up Cyrus plays, as well as Rescue Scarf to enable up to three copies of any Sceptile to be played during the same game.

Teal Mask Ogerpon ex became a more common card to play with the emergence of Igglybuff-Darkrai Sleep deck, thanks to its Soothing Wind ability which essentially nullifies this whole strategy. Its Energized Leaves is a serviceable attack that punishes decks setting up Pokémon, and most notably Miraidon ex strategies.

Early builds of Mega Sceptile ex include Pheromosa, a Basic Pokémon with decent bulk and a Jump Blues attack that enables Cyrus plays. In the late game, this allows Mega Sceptile ex to secure a knockout on a Benched Pokémon. This is a strong strategy against decks that prepare a Benched attacker to come in later.

Some variations of the deck include Nihilego, often as a one-of, and Poison Barb to increase Poison damage.

This version often runs some frontliners to hold the Active spot in the early game, such as Pheromosa, Furfrou or Kartana, while Froakie and Treecko get to evolve until Mega Sceptile ex has enough Energy loaded up and for Greninja to use its ability each turn. It does only run Energy in the Energy zone.
