Mega Scizor ex Deck
Edit1 variant · 125 matches · 20 decklists · 44.8% overall WR since Everyday Wonders
Although type Pokémon have generally been good at Energy acceleration and tanking damage, they have always lacked firepower. Their historical biggest hitter, Solgaleo ex, is a Stage 2. Mega Scizor ex marks the first time a Stage 1 Pokémon ex can hit for more than 120 damage for less than 4 Energy. Its -costed Bullet Slugger attack deals 150 damage if it moved from the Bench to the Active Spot that turn.
Innocuous at first glance, this jump from the usual 120 damage threshold to 150 makes it possible to two-shot a Mega Pokémon, even through cards like Lucky Ice Pop. Doing this for just 3 Energy is a strong rate on a 200 HP Pokémon that only requires a single evolution. Benefiting from the Energy acceleration and defensive support of the type, and entering a metagame where two of the top decks are weak to , Mega Scizor ex could carve its way into the top.

- Bullet Slugger is Mega Scizor ex’s only attack, and it costs 3 Energy, which makes it relatively slow to power up. This is likely the biggest obstacle to its success in the metagame.
Alongside the Basic Scyther, Skarmory is a strong option. It works well as an early-game attacker, and its Retreat Cost is only . This strategy also allows you to include other Pokémon with high Retreat Costs, such as Orthworm, to charge up Mega Scizor ex and enable it to attack a turn earlier.
