Inevitability is the word that best describes the Mewtwo ex deck. The strategy is straightforward: Mewtwo ex deals a respectable 50 damage with Psychic Sphere, then later transition to Psydrive, a 150-damage attack that can be used every turn thanks to a benched Gardevoir's Psy Shadow ability for Energy support. Needless to say, this is enough to knock out most threats in the metagame.
The release of Mythical Island only made the deck more consistent thanks to the release of Mythical Slab, an Item that accelerates the deck tremendously by drawing a card if the top card of the deck is a type. Leaf also helps the deck by retreating Mewtwo ex for free, to conserve its Energy for a later use.
With a top-tier 150 HP and quick setup, Mewtwo ex performs exactly as advertised—and does it very well.

- Although barely anything can beat Mewtwo decks if Gardevoir is played on curve, when it's not the case, the deck can be surprisingly slow to get its gameplan going. It leaves it exposed to strategies consisting of fast, cheap and efficient attackers like Koga decks, Blaine or Starmie ex decks.
