Inevitability is the word that best describes the Mewtwo ex deck. The strategy is straightforward: Mewtwo ex deals a respectable 50 damage with Psychic Sphere, then later transition to Psydrive, a 150-damage attack that can be used every turn thanks to a benched Gardevoir’s Psy Shadow ability for Energy support. Needless to say, this is enough to knock out most threats in the metagame.
With a top-tier 150 HP and quick setup, Mewtwo ex performs exactly as advertised—and does it very well.

Giovanni will be primarily used to round out Psychic Sphere to a 60 damage which knocks out the most common Basic Pokémon in one hit. The ratio of Giovanni, Sabrina and Red Card is up to your discretion.

Apparently, all Mewtwo cards are good, as this version with ‘baby Mewtwo‘ (the non-ex version) has recently been on a tear. Adding a simple regular Mewtwo has provided a lot of traction to the stock version:
- It can tank everything in the early game, and your opponent will waste a lot of time getting rid of it while you can use that time to evolve your Ralts and charge up Mewtwo ex.
- It has an acceptable retreat cost, unlike most tanks (Kangaskhan, Snorlax…), which means it can be withdrawn with relative ease if you need to get rid of the Defending Pokémon.
- It can attack with Power Blast once you establish Gardevoir, dealing a solid 120 damage.
- It only trades for one point.
This version is particularly potent against Pikachu ex, as Mewtwo is one of the rare Basic Pokémon that can withstand a Circle Circuit attack. Even better, it can one-shot Pikachu ex with its Power Blast attack.
Weaknesses
Mewtwo ex’s success heavily depends on setting up Gardevoir as quickly as possible, as it is the condition to power up Psydrive every turn, and power up your Psychic Pokémon in general. While it’s possible to manage without Gardevoir, there’s a noticeable difference between games where it arrives by turn 3 and those where it comes late—if it even comes at all, assuming you can survive until then.

Jynx
Jynx is a one-point Pokémon which Psychic attack scales according to the Energy attached to the Defending Pokémon. This can be a very good intermediate Pokémon to bring in most matchups, for instance against Charizard ex and Venusaur ex decks, as a one-of
