Is this finally the Basic Pokémon ex that will reach the top? Palkia ex follows in the footsteps of Articuno ex as a powerful, high-HP beatstick that doesn’t need to evolve. However, it looks more similar to the top-tier Mewtwo ex, with an entry-level attack followed by a devastasting blow.
Palkia ex can attack as early as turn 1 with Slash for a respectable 30 damage, a novelty among Pokémon ex. Then, for Dimensional Storm hits for 150 damage while also dealing 20 damage to each of the opponent’s Benched Pokémon, at the cost of discarding three Energy.
Not only can it quickly knock out Basic Pokémon if they don't evolve within the first two turns, but it also threatens the bulkiest Pokémon later in the game. Its bench damage punishes strategic retreats and sets up a Cyrus play to finish off a weakened Pokémon for the final prize.

- The payoff is Dimensional Storm, a "hail mary" kind of attack that pretty much cannot be used twice in a row, unlike Mewtwo's Psydrive backed up by Gardevoir. This means you need a backup plan—either a way to recharge Palkia ex or a strong attacker to switch into, since Slash’s 30 damage won’t cut it at this stage of the game even with the 20 splash damage from Dimensional Storm.
- The widely played Mew ex can counter Palkia ex by copying Dimensional Storm, turning its own power against it for an easy knockout.
