Stoutland Deck

Ever since the release of Rare Candy, Stage 2 Pokémon are carefully considered as top competitive options, since they can be brought online much faster. However, few actually make the cut: they either need to attack early to pressure the opponent (like Rampardos) or have a strong enough ability to justify their inclusion (like Greninja). Stoutland has both.
In addition to a solid Sharp Fang attack that deals 70 damage for a generic , its Guard Dog Visage ability is a game-changer: as long as Stoutland is in the Active spot, the opponent’s Active Pokémon’s attacks cost an extra . This essentially delays your opponent by a turn no matter what Pokémon they switch into: Stoutland still taxes them. In effect, it functions like a "Gain an extra turn" effect (also called Time Walk), making it one of the best Stage 2 non-ex Pokémon in the game.

- It’s also easy to play around Guard Dog Visage by parking a tanky Pokémon in the Active spot and charging up extra Energy on the Bench. Since Sharp Fang hardly pressures bulkier targets, the opponent can stall until they’re ready. While switching to a bench-hitter would punish this, Stoutland’s Retreat Cost of 2 makes pivoting harder. That means you’ll need to pair it with a heavy hitter of your own to close out games, especially against late-game threats.
